“One Little Finger makes a point to show that a person with a disability is also a person with many abilities. Through love, acceptance, and understanding, it provides a world without exclusion and judgment. When we reach out towards each other, we celebrate the gift of life.” — Julian Lennon
Ability in Disability – Promoting Inclusion & Diversity! Over a billion people live with some form of disability. This corresponds to about 15% of the world’s population. People are disabled, not only mentally, physically, and emotionally, but by society itself. It is statistically probable that everyone will experience a disability at some point in their life.
The music is directed by Rupam Sarmah. The soundtrack includes World Folk music of various styles combining with contemporary music and classical music. Many Grammy and Academy awards winning artists collaborated with musicians with disabilities in the making of the soundtrack to support the cause of ability in disability, featuring Quincy Jones, Julian Lennon, Siedah Garrett, Kechi Okwuchi, Kevin Mackie, Stephen Melillo, and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. The song consists of lyrics in various languages Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, English, and healing mantras. Properly composed vibrational music can heal the mind, body, and soul. Some of the tracks in this album are used in special-needs schools as music therapy which is helping the children with pain relief and depression. We are continuing our research on frequency-based vibrational music and artificial intelligence to help dementia patients and children with autism.
“I was inspired by the life-stories of the people with disabilities and wanted to take on the challenge of working with over 80 children and young adults with various disabilities. Using music as a platform, we are allowing differently-abled people to perform in this project alongside award-winning artists to promote inclusion and diversity,” Rupam Sarmah says.
It’s a movement to break the barriers of the stigma of the word disability. All it takes is a change in perspective, a change in our mindset! Disability is only what we perceive, ability is everything of what we believe!
